Audis and (more) Imbeciles

Today we bought an Audi A4. It is soooo awesome! We were there for hours but it was well worth it. It’s such a smooth ride and is amazingly comfortable. I’m jealous that my husband gets to drive it to work every day and I’m stuck with the crappy Focus. We have to start saving for another Audi for me to drive. Next time we will get a slightly bigger one with a bit more space. The car salesman commented on my weight and told me I was mean, but he was from Trinidad and probably didn’t realize he was being rude. I let his comments slide right off me.

For a while I thought that the rude comments everyone talks about getting when they’re pregnant were exaggerations. Boy was I wrong! It is completely true. I am getting the feeling that people who make rude comments don’t realize how rude they are being. If they knew how insulting their comments were, I think they wouldn’t have said them. I try to see the best in people. My husband on the other hand does not. He gets so worn out from working with angry people all day, that he doesn’t have patience for anyone.

It seems like every time I’m about to eat, Daphne starts kicking really hard. It’s like she knows that she’s about to be fed and gets really excited. Sometimes that’s the only time I feel her all day. I love feeling her kicking. It reminds me that she is in there and doing well. 

Vegas Heat, Punches, and Coke Cravings

Being pregnant in the Vegas heat sucks. It is about 110 degrees here in Las Vegas today, and I am about to lose my mind. When you go outside you can feel your shoes melting on the asphalt. I’m so exhausted from the heat that I just feel like lying on the couch all day and not doing anything. This of course is not possible because we are moving in less than 2 weeks. There is still so much left to pack, and so many walls to finish painting.

Daphne has been using my uterus as a punching bag. I’m feeling it more and more as she is getting heavier. She seems especially active after I eat. She is getting so big that it is boggling my mind. I can tell exactly where she is just by pressing on my stomach.

We need a vacation so bad. If only money wasn’t an issue! I’m sure that everyone else is feeling just about the same. It’s just so hot here in this miserable excuse for a city. In this heat I get so grumpy and irritable. I want to go up north to Canada or Alaska or Washington or someplace bearable. It is too darn hot.

I’m still trying to find a decent pair of shoes to fit my fat feet. I ended up buying some Lucky Brand ballerinas, but my feet have been killing me, especially since I am on my feet all day at work. They don’t have enough support, and my ankles swell up by the end of the night. I want a pair of Pumas but they are expensive, and we are tight on money because we are moving soon.

I've been craving Coca Cola lately. I’ve been indulging that craving and I feel so terrible about it. Caffeine is really bad for pregnant women, and even worse for the fetus. It can cause all sorts of developmental problems, and cause low birth weight. I feel so selfish for having drunk all that Coke.

I can’t believe I am already more than half way through my pregnancy! On Friday I was exactly at the half-way point. The countdown has officially begun! 

Imbeciles, Pumas, and Ronald McDonald

I got my first rude comment yesterday. I went to Summerlin Hospital to pre-register for the delivery, and the volunteer at the information desk said to me, “You look like you need to go up to labor and delivery!” I told her no, and that I wasn’t due for another twenty weeks. She then proceeded to tell me that I must be carrying twins. I told her no, and she said, “Well I guess you look so big already because you are big to begin with.” How rude! I just smiled at her and told her to have a nice day.

I also started my job yesterday at Francesca’s Collections. They have such cute stuff, none of which I can fit into thanks to my lovely baby bump. It’s going really well and I like it a lot, my only complaint is the fact that my feet are killing me at the end of the day. These wretched feet have grown a full size since I got pregnant. I went to the Puma store yesterday to buy some new shoes, since none of the shoes that I have fit me, and I found the cutest pair of flats. They were on sale, they were just what I was looking for, but they didn’t have my size! The biggest they went was size nine. I was so disappointed because I love Pumas so much, and those shoes were perfect.

On my way to work today, I saw the most ridiculous and disturbing thing. Ronald McDonald was driving down the street in a big red van. I immediately had flashbacks to my childhood; anytime I saw clowns I would scream and cry. To this day I am still afraid of them. This is all probably thanks to the lovely clown wallpaper that my mom had in my nursery. Thanks, Mom!

How Hubby Sees It

It is so amazing to know that this baby we will shortly have in our arms, and in our lives, is something we created. Nadia, my wife, texted me one day while I was at work, and all she said was, “I have a surprise.” Many things ran through my head, I wondered what she was going to surprise me with; maybe cookies, maybe cake, or maybe something even sweeter. As I drove home, I kept guessing at what the surprise could be, but I never expected what it really was. When I walked up the stairs my wife came to me and pulled me into her arms, and said, “I’m pregnant.” I was shocked, excited, scared, and unbelievably happy. It felt so unreal. We had talked about having a baby for quite a while, but we never expected it would happen so fast. The first thing we did was tell everyone the terrific news!

I’m so excited to be able to hold my little girl. Its incredible how much I love her already, I haven’t seen her or held her yet, another 5 months to go. Sometimes the time seems to go so fast, and other times it goes so slowly. When I think about the fact that it has already been almost five months, it b lows my mind. It seems as though it were only yesterday that we were hoping and praying for a beautiful baby. On the other hand, when I think about the fact that we still have five months to go, time seems to move so slowly.

I can already hear, feel, and even see Daphne moving. She kicks so hard that I can see Nadia’s stomach moving. If I press my ear up to her stomach I can hear our little baby moving around. When we check her heart beat with a Doppler, I press all around her stomach to feel for Daphne. I can usually find where she is, place the Doppler at that spot, and hear her little heart pounding so quickly.

Sometimes it feels so unreal, like a dream, and other times it hits me like a wall. I realize Daphne is very real, a small baby we will be carrying out of the hospital in a few short months. We will nurture, care, and always love our little baby girl, Daphne.

Babies, Kicks, Shopping, and Cord Blood

Today was a pretty awesome day! My mom and I went over to a friend’s house to see her grandchild. His name is Elijah and he is absolutely adorable! He is only two months old, and he is an absolute joy. He was fast asleep on the couch when we got there, and he didn’t wake up until an hour or so later. When he finally did wake up, I got to hold him and feed him. He smiled and made the sweetest baby noises! It made me so much more excited for Daphne to arrive.

Daphne has been kicking so much lately! Last night she kicked me so super hard that you could see my stomach going up and down. It really hurt! I felt the pain from it for a few hours afterwards.  She’s gonna be a soccer player! If those kicks hurt this bad now, imagine what they will feel like in a few weeks!

I’ve been having so much trouble eating. Today my mom and I went to Brio at Tivoli Village for lunch. I ordered a kids meal, and I couldn’t finish it! I felt pathetic. There were four pieces of ravioli on that plate, and I had to ask for a box. The waiter looked at me funny. Here I am, obviously pregnant, and I can’t even finish a kids meal!

Adam and I went to Marshalls the other night to find an outfit for Elijah. We found a super cute Calvin Klein bodysuit! It was blue, green and white striped, and it came with booties and a hat too! It was ridiculously cheap. We also found a Carter’s bodysuit for Daphne. I love Carter’s clothing! They are such great quality. I especially like the ones with elephants on them. This particular bodysuit is blue with white stars, and it has a pink elephant on the bottom holding a sparkler with its trunk. It is perfect for Fourth of July! I can’t wait to dress my little princess in it.

I’m thinking about cord blood banking. I would really like to do that for Daphne, but it is sort of expensive! If we could afford it, I would totally invest in it. I’ve heard such awesome things about it. Apparently cord blood banking has saved a lot of people’s lives. Apparently it can cure all kinds of illnesses, even ones that there isn’t medicine for! Maybe with our next child we will be able to afford it. I think that I am going to at least donate Daphne’s cord blood, that way it can help someone!

Starting my Pregnancy Blog! (Finally)

I’ve been meaning to start this blog for since I got pregnant. Here I am, a few days shy of the halfway point, and I am only now beginning it! I guess this will be quite a long post, since a lot has happened in the past 20 weeks!

When I first found out that I was pregnant, I was ecstatic. I stared down at that little pink line in disbelief. I couldn’t fathom the idea that there was a tiny life growing inside of me. Everything that I hoped for came true in that moment. The first thing that I did is call my mom. She was absolutely stunned; Adam and I had been married for just over a month. It turns out that I got pregnant less than two weeks after the wedding! I guess I am fertile Myrtle. After I got off the phone with her, I waited impatiently for Adam to get home from work. When he walked up the stairs, I ran into his arms and told him the good news. He couldn’t stop smiling! We were the happiest people on this earth.

The weeks went by so slowly! I couldn’t wait to start showing my baby bump, and it didn’t take long! Adam and I were confident that the baby was a boy. I hardly had morning sickness, which is usually a sign that it’s a boy. I only threw up for a week, and only once a day! I did throw up a few times from smells, though. One night, Adam was making hamburgers, and the smell of the cooking meat made me hurl. Anyhow, we were absolutely convinced that it was a boy. We started shopping a bit, but we mainly picked out gender neutral things.

When I was 16 weeks, we decided to go get an elective ultrasound to find out the gender. We went to a place called Miracle in Progress here in Las Vegas, which was totally awesome! We got a gender scan and a 3D ultrasound preview. I think that we are going to go back again in a few weeks to get a full 3D ultrasound. The pictures that they can get are incredible! Their website is miracleinprogress.com if you want to check it out. The tech that we had was fantastic. The whole experience was awesome, except that I had to get up to pee about six times during the half hour we were there! Baby was being so shy, and wouldn’t uncross its legs! They told us that they thought that it was a boy, and they were 90% sure. Since they guarantee the gender, though, they had us come back a few days later. We immediately headed to TJ Maxx to shop for baby boy clothes! When we went back to Miracle in Progress, baby, who we had named Dmitri at this point, was doing the same thing! It took forever to finally get a potty-shot without those incredibly cute legs in the way. After thirty minutes or so, the tech told us that Dmitri was actually a girl! Back to the store we went to return those outfits, and shop for new ones! I was thrilled when we learned that baby was a boy, but when she turned out to be a girl, I was ecstatic! One of my favorite pastimes these days is shopping for her. I always get things on sale, though!

We decided to name her Daphne. I absolutely love the name for a lot of reasons. For one, it isn’t a totally weird name, but it also isn’t very common. The story behind the name is cool, too. For those of you who aren’t versed in Greek mythology, Daphne was a virtuous nymph who was pursued by the lustful Apollo. She spurned his advances and fled from him. She prayed to be saved from him, and she was turned into a laurel bush. Apollo so loved her that the laurel bush became his symbol. I think that it is a beautiful story! Both Adam and I are in love with the name, and with our baby. When Adam kisses me goodbye in the mornings, he kisses my belly too! It is the sweetest thing in the world. I swear, I fall more in love with him every day.

We are getting ready to move at the moment. We found a beautiful, large two bedroom apartment that is very much in our price range. It is way cheaper than the apartment we are living in now! We will be moving in the beginning of July, so we have been super busy packing and getting everything ready. I am so excited to decorate the nursery!
